Is there anything better than the smell of freshly baked bread?
Many would argue no, but I think I’ve found a new favourite smell.
The smell of freshly baked Brezel from Brezel Co, the latest addition to James St’s foodie scene.
What is a brezel, you say? Well, a brezel is not only my new favourite pastry, but a soft pretzel that is a cross between bread and cake. They come dipped in a variety of toppings, with flavours including cookies and cream, black forest, hazelnut delight and banoffee pie.
This may sound like a sugar overload, but believe me, it aint. They’re blooming delicious and you’ll be licking every last crumb off the plate.
My new fave is a take on the classic German bee sting cake. Filled with a smooth, vanilla custard and topped with caramelised onions, this light, fluffy brezel has the perfect amount of sweetness without being overbearing.
Don’t have a sweet tooth? Savoury brezels also stock the shelves with the simple buttered brezel being hard to go past.
